Though Herbert  Buxton is a successful scientist and teacher at London University, his parents think he’s taking on too much work and they’ll never have grandchildren. He’s currently running an experiment but he doesn’t have much time to carry this work on his own, so he posts a job for an assistant.

Lily  Fortescue had just moved to London with her brother Miles to help him find a decent job. Now that their father doesn’t approve of his interest in acting, Lily came up with an idea that Miles will ask for a job from Hebert. In fact, she will secretly do the whole work while Miles will search for a job in his field.
